Ali George - Berry Quilting Retreat 15 & 16 August 2020
Ali George: Vessels and Journals
Join award winning textile artist Ali George for two days of getting creative as we explore the idea of vessels.
Nests, bowls and journal covers are all containers of things, ideas, and our creative processes. These two days are for anyone who wants to come away with the thrill of achieving completed projects and plenty of them. Ali creates an environment where you can push as hard or gently as you choose to create a range of bowls, bags and new fabric to create a cover for a journal, a journal cover, a mixed media cushion cover or small wall hanging. If you have ever wanted to be in a workshop that is all about you then this is your weekend class. If you want to have two days of creative fun where the emphasis is on you then this is that class.
Materials:
We will use all types of yarn, thread, wool, fabric scraps and trimmings to create new yarns that will become bowls or vessels. We will take fabric strips and wrap these around cotton rope and create a number of fabulous bowls or baskets, with a lid if you choose. Throughout the weekend we will take little creative breaks to make the fabric pieces we need to create a journal cover – that will start with the story of your weekend in Berry for the amazing 10th anniversary of BQR.
Ali provides teaching samples and a little something for every participant as a memento of your time at BQR. We will work on individual and shared pieces – ultimately it’s about the enthusiasm and excitement we each bring to the workshop.
On registration, a class requirement list will be provided. Please note that Ali will order a quantity of rope to be available for purchase instead of lugging it in your suitcase. Other materials required will be provided once registration is complete.
Once you have completed registration, a private social media group will be created for you to opt in (if you choose) and we can chat about the workshop and what each f you wants to achieve or answer any queries before we head to Berry. This group will start about 3 weeks prior to BQR.
Ali is very excited to be coming out of retirement for this very special workshop at BQR2020.
