Amy Tedge - Berry Quilting Retreat 15 & 16 August 2020
Amy Tedge: Biography
My mum Lorraine, has a fabric shop in Adelaide called Hettie’s Patch that she started 14 years ago. I started an Instagram account called @fromtheshopfloor to show some bit’s and pieces that I’d made for the shop and to show some paintings I had been working on as signage for visiting teachers.
In 2018, I found a piece of white linen with pink stars that was only small, so I wondered what to do with it because it was too sweet to throw away. That is when the butterflies began. The wings lend themselves to any beautiful piece of fabric. They are quick to make, they can be embellished with coloured thread and for me, each one is a little study in colour and shape.
I held two butterfly classes at Hettie’s Patch in July and August 2019 and then in September I had a class at Treehouse Textiles. I was invited to teach butterflies at The Strawberry Thief in Perth and the Cutting Cloth in Melbourne.
French General have invited me to teach in France in June and July at their French Getaway. Naturally I jumped at the chance. Amongst all of the excitement I’m still trying to come up with new ideas and new possibilities.
