In this two day workshop in which you will learn the basics of book binding. You will fold your paper pages into sections and then hand-sew these sections together into a single book block. The cover can be decorated and embellished to your heart’s desire with painting or drawing, fabric, decoupage or embroidery and then wrapped around your hand-sewn block of pages, creating a bespoke hard-cover, individualized book.
It could be a photo album containing your wedding memories; a personal journal for remembered dreams; a sketch book of captured moments; a cook book of collected recipes; a diary for your private thoughts; an individualized baby book stretching into their teens.

Equipment needed
- needle awl (large, strong needle or very slender nail stuck into a cork works well)
- glue brush (3 – 4cm wide, flat brush)
- craft knife with sharp, new blade
- paper scissors
- steel ruler
- cutting mat
- leather needle (blunt with flat, biggish eye)
- paper folder (large ice cream/tongue stick also works well
- pencil and eraser
Materials needed
- Student needs to provide the fabric/paper with which to cover their journal. This could be anything from high quality wrapping paper, to heavy duty brown paper, to cotton, silk or canvas. It will be glued to the grey board and must be larger than an A3 size (by at least 10cm on all 4 sides). Think in terms of a dust jacket of a book. Student must also consider whether book is portrait of landscape format.
- Heavy duty, strong sewing thread with which to sew the pages together -dental floss also works well.

- lightweight cotton tape
- tub flour paste glue
- tub of acrylic glaze coat
- 20 X sheets A3 paper (minimum weight 180gsm when folded makes up 40 page book block)
- grey board for cover and spine (cut to size)
- 2 X sheets A3 decorative paper (for end pages) in various colours

CANCELLATION POLICY
- $100 is non refundable in the event of your cancellation.
- Full Workshop Fee is non refundable in the event of your cancellation after 30 June 2020.
- Berry Quilting Retreat reserves the right to cancel a workshop due to lack of numbers or unforeseen circumstances. In this situation you will be given a full refund for the workshop.
- Under no circumstances is Berry Quilting Retreat responsible for any additional expenses incurred to attend the Workshop, such as accommodation and/or travel expenses
